THE AUTOPSY
屍體解剖
Every doctor needs a basic understanding of the autopsy, while every pathologist requires an in-depth knowledge of the techniques involved. However, the declining autopsy rate means that many medical students will not see an autopsy before they graduate, while many pathologists struggle to get sufficient exposure during their training. This series of four programmes aims to fill the gap. The series provides excellent viewing for postgraduate trainees of pathology, undergraduate students of medicine, and students of dentistry and nursing.
剖驗屍體是每位病理學家必須具備的技巧。由於種種問題醫科學生未必能全面實踐有關工作。本系列提供真實的示範,幫助更具體了解實際情況。原版英文發音。
1. HEALTH AND SAFETY, EVISCERATION AND RECONSTRUCTION
安全問題:內臟剜除術及重建
Every autopsy carries with it potential health and safety hazards. Many of these lie not in the body itself but in the pathologist’s lack of awareness of the potential risks. This programme looks at these issues, with emphasis on safe sharp practice, the use of protective clothing and equipment, and the design of the postmortem suite. It then demonstrates the techniques required to eviscerate the body, and to achieve a safe and cosmetically acceptable reconstruction.

2. HOSPITAL POST-MORTEMS
解剖死因
This programme demonstrates the procedures undertaken in a routine hospital autopsy examination beginning with a detailed external examination of the body. A brief resume of evisceration methods is given before moving on to demonstrate the dissection of the pelvic, abdominal and thoracic organs, and of the unfixed brain. Finally, the demonstration of the findings is shown.

In this programme the dissection of the strap muscles of the neck, and methods of removing the brain, eyes, temporal bones and spinal cord are demonstrated. The method of examining the middle ears is shown. The indications for these techniques are described. While these techniques do not all form part of the routine autopsy examination, every pathologist should be competent in their practice.

4. SPECIALIST TECHNIQUES

This programme shows how to detect the presence of a pneumothorax and a cardiac air embolus, and demonstrates how to remove the femur, examine the deep veins of the calf and how to dissect the muscles of the rectus sheath. The dissection of the intact female genitourinary tract and the face is also demonstrated. Finally, the programme shows how to collect samples for toxicological analysis.
