Now they are 16-year-old teenagers, exploring the opposite sex, becoming more independent and working out who they are. It’s not just our children who are looking and behaving differently. Since they were born, the very nature of family life and society has transformed. How does growing up in the modern, digital world shape teenage bodies, minds and relationships? This year Child of Our Time discovers what life is like for modern teens, and how they are influenced by the changes in their biology, upbringing and the society around them.

In this episode, Professor Robert Winston and Professor Tanya Byron follow our teens through their GCSE year to discover how they are being shaped by these unique times. In a bold experiment Child of Our Time teens gave us access to their digital lives, giving a 24/7 window into their phone use and the impact of constant connectivity on friendship, sleep and anxiety. As our teens reach this landmark age, we explore how they cope with the challenges of life to build their dreams for the future.

Child of Our Time is a landmark series that has followed the development of a group of 25 children from a range of genetic, social, geographical and ethnic backgrounds since their birth in 2000. This special draws on a collection of extraordinary observational footage, revealing the remarkable and compelling stories of the children and their families as they reflect on life over the last 13 years and begin a new chapter - the teenage years. The programmes also bring the stories up to date. The age of 13 marks a time of significant change. The children are now at secondary school. How have they coped with this transition? How are they dealing with the challenging physiological and biological changes of teenage life? And finally, what are their hopes and dreams for the next 10 years?

In this programme we follow several of our children preparing to become teenagers and see how their parents and grandparents will cope! Having followed our children from tiny babies through to pre-teen tearaways, viewers will now get to hear them articulate their feelings about life more eloquently. We discover how they have coped with bullying, with having a famous mum or with learning to live with money worries. The children's bodies and brains are changing, and their interviews are illustrated with not only their lives today but our rich archive, giving us a unique view into the past.

In this programme we look at how some of our children - and their parents and grandparents - have coped with the changes in their family. Now, with thousands of hours of observational archive and interviews at our disposal, we're able to see how our families have changed in the thirteen years we've been filming them. Viewers will hear our children articulate their feelings about life more eloquently. We discover how they have coped with the divorce of their parents, with getting into trouble at school or even with bereavement.
